Medication Purpose
Liraglutide Biocon injection contains Liraglutide, which helps control elevated blood sugar levels and may also assist in preventing heart disease by slowing down food passage through the stomach.
Important Usage Information
- Not for Type 1 Diabetes or Diabetic Ketoacidosis: Liraglutide Biocon is a non-insulin medication and should not be used as an insulin substitute for these conditions.
- Specific Restrictions: This medication is not advised for patients undergoing dialysis, or those with liver disease or severe heart failure.
- Pediatric Use: Approved for adolescents and children aged 10 years and older. Not recommended for children under 10 due to lack of data.
- Contraindications: Not suitable for individuals with severe digestive issues, such as gastroparesis or inflammatory bowel disease.
- Additional Precautions: Those with thyroid conditions or a history of pancreatitis should consult a doctor before use.
Patients may experience fluid loss due to side effects like vomiting or diarrhea, especially at the start of treatment, and should stay hydrated. Always consult a healthcare provider with any questions or concerns.
Possible Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
In clinical trials, hypoglycemia was less frequent with liraglutide monotherapy compared to other treatments (e.g., glimepiride). Symptoms include cold sweats, paleness, headache, and trembling.
Injection site reactions
Mild reactions (e.g., pain, bruising) occurred in about 2% of patients in trials. Rotate injection sites to reduce chances of irritation.
Other common side effects
- Gastrointestinal issues: Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and indigestion.
- Respiratory symptoms: Bronchitis and common cold.
- Additional effects: Headache, fatigue, increased heart rate, toothache, and dizziness.
Severe Reactions
In rare cases, some may experience severe side effects. If unusual symptoms occur, contact a healthcare provider immediately.

Common Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal: Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, and indigestion.
- Respiratory: Bronchitis, common cold.
- Other: Headache, fatigue, dizziness, increased pulse, and mild injection site reactions.
Important: The risk of hypoglycemia increases if used with sulfonylureas or insulin; in these cases, dose adjustments may be necessary.
